Trump Announces Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Tensions Between Iran and Israel
U.S. President Donald Trump announced early Tuesday that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel is now in effect, just moments after Iranian state-affiliated media reported that Tehran had launched its “final round” of missile strikes.
“THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump posted on Truth Social around 1:00 a.m. U.S. time.
The announcement followed a fresh wave of Iranian missile attacks on Israel, launched just as the ceasefire deadline—previously mentioned by Trump—was approaching.
Despite the declaration, there are still many questions surrounding the ceasefire’s stability. It’s unclear whether both Iran and Israel are fully on board, whether this pause in fighting could open the door for renewed nuclear talks between Tehran and Western nations, or what it means for Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
This ceasefire follows a sharp escalation in conflict, including Iran’s retaliatory missile strike on Monday targeting the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Interestingly, Trump thanked Iran for providing advance notice of the attack.
Meanwhile, U.S. financial markets reacted positively. Stock indexes closed higher Monday, driven by hopes that Iran’s response to recent U.S. bombings of its nuclear sites would remain limited. Oil prices also dropped as fears eased over the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route for oil.
